Here's a brief snapshot of what Bird River Band has been up to! We've gone back and forth from cozy winter venues to warm, bright stages in the South - a journey that's been filled with unforgettable music and friends. Whether we were strumming by the snowy trails in (and around) Winnipeg or crooning under the southern sun, each gig and collaboration has added to a mosaic of unforgettable memories. Check out our seasonal escapades and discover the diverse venues and exciting partnerships that have highlighted our recent tours.
Well, Bird River Band has a new tour bus!
Randy here! Halina and I did two long winter trips this year. They were "escape the snow" type of trips with site seeing, visiting with friends and of course, a lot of song writing - and gigging!
One trip was for five weeks in Mexico (more on this in the next section below) and the second trip was a 13,000 km southern USA road trip in “Sparky”, our new Tesla Model Y.
For our road trip, I fit a small PA, microphones and stand in Sparky's sub trunk. My acoustic was kept up with our suitcases for easy nightly hotel access and off we went!
Feel free to contact me through my Bird River Band email to talk Tesla or song writing.
Randy here, again! Here's a continuation of our winter travels and music.
Like I had said earlier, we escaped the cold for five weeks in Mexico. I had a gig every Wednesday and Friday at the La Sirena rooftop bar in Puerto Morelos, playing Bird River Band originals. Cool!
This photo features John and Gary who are musical royalty in Puerto Morelos and are great friends of Bird River Band.
Gary and I met in Puerto Morelos about fifteen years ago and have been close friends ever since.
Gary, Sally and other Kansas city friends accepted the “come north to Canada challenge” They have spent time at our lake house and we have gone to visit them many times in Kansas City, MO.
Gary and John made space between their sets for me to play Bird River Band songs on Fridays at La Sirenna
I played the open mic sessions between 4 and 6pm on Wednesdays.
I did cover songs when there was a house band and Bird River Band originals when I was solo.
We've played plenty of private house parties while enjoying the night with the guests and making new friends, of course! We've played numerous charity events, and we've also had a neat opportunity playing at the Government House of Manitoba! We've played at bars and cafes, and even on the big stages for concerts and larger gatherings.
Check out the video below of a fun collaboration we did in Puerto Morelos!
And here we have a little collage of a few of our past gigs, including a couple collaborations as well.

Of course, we love music! We had people stop us on the beach while on vacation, requesting lyrics to some of the songs they heard us play for all the vacationers. Are you a musician? Drop us a line anytime – whether it’s to discuss potential gigs, dive into songwriting techniques, or just to say hi. We love connecting with fellow musicians. Don't be shy!
